FAQs

What does CDM stand for?

CDM stands for Construction (Design and Management). It refers to a set of regulations introduced in 2015 to govern the way UK construction projects are planned, making sure they’re run safely, without harming workers, end users or the public. CDM consultants, like our specialists here at Pulse Consult, are rigorously trained and tested by NEBOSH (The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), APS (The Association of Project Safety) or IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

What’s the difference between a CDM and a principal designer?

A CDM consultant is trained in the entire CDM regulatory framework, covering all health and safety responsibilities throughout the lifecycle of a project. A principal designer is a specific role defined by the CDM regulations and involves planning, managing, monitoring and controlling the pre-construction phase to mitigate risk and maximise health and safety.
