The challenge

Helping LSBU make all the right moves

As part of an extensive space utilisation review, London South Bank University (LSBU) is consolidating its estate to reflect modern teaching and working practices.

This means reorganising, refurbishing and reallocating spaces, and sensitively moving staff and students. It’s a continuously evolving, future-focused exercise, but it demands a thoughtful approach to avoid disruption, overcome apprehension and ensure a positive experience for everyone – often with very tight turnaround times.

The role we're playing

We’ve developed a strong, long-term relationship with LSBU, becoming a trusted advisor to their senior estates team and playing an integral part in delivering education construction projects, as part of their ambitious estate masterplan.

As part of this partnership, we provide a Move Management service to ensure the seamless transition of staff, students and external stakeholders between new spaces. Our multifaceted service includes strategic planning and stakeholder engagement, as well as on-the-ground coordination of construction and removal works.

We begin with a detailed stakeholder mapping exercise to determine who will be impacted and their space and technical requirements. Working with LSBU’s space management team and academic schools, we then facilitate the negotiation and agreement of space allocation.

We take the lead on executing each move, developing a detailed schedule, providing clear delivery dates and working carefully around teaching commitments. This often involves procuring extensive refurbishment works, organising the removal and redistribution of furniture and equipment, technical oversight and support with leases.

The results

We’ve helped the University with multiple successful moves, making sure there’s always a senior member of the Pulse Consult team on the ground to provide a visible presence and single point of contact for stakeholders. It means that whatever each move brings, we can resolve problems on the spot, and keep projects moving forward.

This on-site presence also means we’re able to work closely with refurbishment contractors, removal firms and the university’s own team, getting the best out of everyone, every time.
