The challenge
Creating a cutting-edge London campus
Confetti is a renowned creative industries institute teaching visual effects, film, TV, games, live and technical events skills to over 2,000 students. Based in Nottingham and part of the award-winning Nottingham Trent University, the institute wanted to expand its reach by opening a new campus in Whitechapel – London’s centre for the creative industries.
With a timeframe of just a year, Confetti wanted to establish a new, state-of-the-art base in the footprint of the former London Metropolitan University campus, creating vocational education facilities for both UK and international students.
The role we played
The Confetti team brought Pulse Consult on board because of our experience in arts and education construction, including past projects for Nottingham Trent University.
We were appointed as project management consultants, cost consultants and contract administration experts, helping to deliver a multipurpose digital campus, to a tight deadline. Our construction consultants took an agile approach, devising a procurement strategy to meet Confetti’s budget and timescales, where traditional routes had failed.
Once the project team took possession of the building, we had just six months to complete phase one – finishing 35,000ft2 of technically challenging fit-out works in time to welcome the first cohort of students. From there, we completed phase two inside a calendar year. We applied our expertise in studio construction, used our knowledge of the London contractor market, and acted as liaison with the landlord’s developers who were working on site at the same time.

The results
Both phases were completed on time, on budget, and the client was really pleased with the support and professionalism the Pulse Consult team brought to the project.
Confetti London is now welcoming students from all over the world at its substantially refurbished, high-end new campus. It’s home to specialist Dolby Atmos equipped studios, modern teaching spaces and a flexible 600-capacity venue which hosts live music, entertainment and esports.
Confetti Media Group have engaged Pulse Consult as employer’s agent on two design and build contracts, most recently for the fit-out of our new London campus in Whitechapel… Pulse initially acted as tenant’s representative under an agreement for lease with our landlord, monitoring the landlord’s works and programme before negotiating and administering a fast-track D&B contract with our fit-out contractor... Under a challenging set of circumstances, Pulse Consult’s professionalism and stewardship helped keep the project on track… and Pulse continue to protect our financial interest in all our contracts… We would have no hesitation in recommending Pulse Consult to assist clients with complex or challenging projects.
